My Career Goals

As I said in my "About Me," page, my goal is to first earn my Bachelors Degree at UF and then pursue a Masters in Library and Information Sciences, specializing in archival studies.  I love all kinds of history, but especially American history.  I love reading and learning about the American Revolution, American Civil War, the Roosevelts and the Gilded Age.  I also enjoy going back to pre-America, since that's where we all started.  History has been treated so badly by making it rote, just learning dates and names.  History is so much more than that.  It's a story.  If I ask each of you about something in your past, you would give me more then dates and names.  You would actually be telling me a story.  That's what makes each one of us so valued in who we are and where we came from.

So what would be a dream job for me?  I put 2 photos on this page to give you an indication of what or where they would be.  One (and not necessarily in that order), is the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina.  This house was built between 1889 and 1895.  It opened on Christmas Day 1895.  It was built during the height of the Gilded Age.  It is the largest privately owned house in America.  I go at least twice a year to visit the gardens and house.  I would love to work for the archivist of the house, even as a part-time assistant.  I would also love to be the people that work in the house, being interpreters as well as guides.

The other dream job would be to work in the Lincoln Library and Museum in Springfield, Illinois.  This is considered the busiest of all presidential libraries. and rightfully so.  This is a very fluid museum when it comes to displays and bringing out archives for people to enjoy and learn.  There once was an exhibit regarding Marilyn Monroe.  Why Marilyn Monroe?  Because she had an absolute fascination about Lincoln.  I am sure there are so many more examples.  I lived in St. Louis, Missouri for about 2 years, and Springfield was maybe a 1 hour drive.  Oh Yes, I took advantage of that.

So that's just a very small part of my goals and desires.  I am sure they might be changing, but it is something that I can strive for.
